Walter Trout & Mumm Brut Rose

Kicking off the New Year with a blues blast. Walter Trout (born March 6, 1951, in Ocean City, NJ) is a phenomenal blues guitarist who got his start on the Jersey Coast scene in the late 1960s.  He moved to LA in the early 70s and worked as a sideman first for Percy Mayfield then, shortly thereafter, for John Lee Hooker and Joe Tex.

In 1981 he joined Canned Heat as their lead guitarist. That exposure drew the attention of John Mayall who invited Walter to join the Blues Breakers. He became part of their lineage of great guitarists like Pete Green, Eric Clapton, and Mick Taylor who played stints with the band. He left the Bluesbreakers in 1989 after five years and formed the 'Walter Trout Band,' which developed a very successful following in Europe and started him down the road to becoming the blues icon that he is today. He ranks sixth on BBC Radio One’s list of Top Twenty Guitarists of all time. Enjoy!

Most people drink champagne on New Years eve, but it’s good anytime. One of the most reliable and reasonably priced is NV Mumm Brut Rosé ($20.00), made from a blend of 85% Pinot Noir, 15% Chardonnay. It’s a beautiful salmon pink with a bouquet full of berries. Lots of strawberries and raspberries on the palate. The fine mousse texture lasts forever with a tart, crisp finish.  Mumm Brut Rosé and Walter Trout: a great way to kick off the New Year.

Cheers!
