Shredders & Gnarley Head Zinfandel

I’m sick and tired of cold weather and feeling rather rambunctious tonight, so I’ve put together music to match my mood. I can’t even begin to describe each guitarist, but all of them are icons of the business. Rather than write a lot of commentary, I suggest you crank up the volume and psyche up for the coming week.

The power of tonight’s music calls for a powerhouse wine. Last week I reviewed Brazin zinfandel, one of my favorites. Tonight, I suggest trying its little brother, the 2011 Gnarley Head Zinfandel ($10.00). While Brazin is considered a super premium Zin (although I bought it for $14.00), its little brother Gnarley Head is the largest selling Zin in the United States. It even has its own Facebook page in Sweden. They’re made by the same vinter so it’s not surprising that there’s a strong family resemblance.

Gnarley Head has wonderful aromas of dark berries and spice. It’s a mouthful of blackberry jam accented with vanilla and a peppery finish. It’s also 14.5% alcohol so don’t plan of leaving home after you try it. Instead, sit back, blast the music, and hope it scares the snot out of this linger winter enough to finally let spring arrive.

Cheers!

Michael ackson Tribute & Ken Wright Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

Having a really bad day today. Big disappointment at work. My company put me in a compromising situation and I have to deal with some difficult decisions. So, I think tonight, I’m going to offer an assortment of guitarists playing the music of Michael Jackson. His music really lends itself to translation on the guitar and the players I’ve listed below are geniuses at the art. Gareth Pearson is my favorite young guitarist. I’d suggest downloading his music at CandyRat.com. And of course, Adam Rafferty is phenomenal, but don't miss the guitarist playing Black & White. Amazing! The music is kind of a pick me up, for me, at least, and I find it easier to think through decisions listening to it, especially with a glass of Ken Wright Cellars Pinot Noir…or maybe the whole bottle. Enjoy!

The 2009 Ken Wright Cellars Willamette Valley Pinot Noir ($25.00) is one of my favorites from Oregon. It’s a blend from nine different Willamette Valley vineyards. It truly embodies everything I love about Oregon Pinot Noir. It’s bright red in color with a bouquet filled with cherries and wild flowers. It’s bursting with flavors of tart cherry, vanilla, and a touch of baking spice and mild tannins followed by a long, lingering finish. It’s a great wine for stimulating the neural synapses when I want to think. Enjoy!

Cheers!

Four of the best young guitarists & Siduri Pinot Noir

Saturday night and I feel like revisiting four of my favorite young guitarists. Two girls and two guys to keep it even. Being a gentleman, I’ll let the ladies go first. Enjoy!

With these fine young guitarists, I suggest a fine young wine, namely a 2009 Siduri Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. Ruby red with a bouquet flowers and cinnamon, it hits your mouth with a burst of cherry and raspberry flavors. It’s young, yet has nuances of future complexity. Alcohol content is below 14% so don’t worry about having more than one glass. Enjoy!

Cheers!
